Retrospective analysis of the methods and complications following the insertion of a PEG tube in children

Introduction A long-term intragastric feeding is the indication for percutaneous endoscopic gastrostomy (PEG) placement in a patient. The procedure performed children with central nervous system (CNS) disorders, congenital heart defects and neoplastic or metabolic diseases. PEG most commonly by gastroscopy procedure. Aim study aimed to retrospectively analyse methods applied complications following tube insertion patients of Regional Specialist Children's Hospital Olsztyn, Poland, years 2000–2019. Material retrospective analysis was conducted medical histories records qualified on 48 children: 24 boys girls. mean age 7 years. inserted cerebral plasy 30 patients, 11 genetic disorders 7. Results discussion reasons included dysphagia children, no weight gain 7, aspiration gastric contents bronchial tree 6, difficulties 10. Two performing were employed: alone (31 cases) laparoscopic-assisted (17). were: local at incision site (28), dysfunction (13), vomiting (9), sepsis (2), buried bumper syndrome (1), oesophagitis gastrointestinal fistula (1). Conclusions burdened significant number complications, however, they are mainly related inflammation dysfunction.
